The present invention relates to the field of instant messaging. Disclosed are a terminal device and method for synchronizing chat history of instant messaging. The method comprises: a terminal device receives an instruction initiated by a user for viewing chat history with a specified user, and if the terminal device does not locally store the chat history with the specified user, then the terminal device transmits to the specified user a request for synchronizing the chat history; when the terminal device receives the chat history returned by the specified user, the terminal device stores the chat history locally and displays the chat history to the user. The technical solution of the present invention can solve the problem that the local chat history is lost and no server stores the chat history. |
