A method and device for participants to privately chat in a video conference. The method comprises: acquiring information about a private chat receiver according to a first pre-set instruction; sending a private chat request to the private chat receiver according to the information about the private chat receiver; receiving a first response message returned by the private chat receiver; if the content of the first response message is that the response is successful, sending a request for establishing a private chat audio-video channel to the private chat receiver; receiving a second response message returned by the private chat receiver; and if the content of the second response message is accepting the request, establishing the private chat audio-video channel with the private chat receiver. By means of the solution provided in the embodiments of the present invention, by sending a request for establishing a private chat audio-video channel to a private chat receiver, and establishing the private chat audio-video channel with the private chat receiver when a second response message returned by the private chat receiver while receiving a private chat request is received, participants at different conference places in the video conference can privately chat and discuss in case of need without affecting the conference. |
