The method also includes transmitting data representing the advertisement to a browser. The browser interacts with an expandable API to render an inline frame having an advertisement slot. The method also includes transmitting display data representing the additional information related to the advertisement to the browser. The browser receives an input to activate the ad extension. In response to the input, the browser interacts with the expandable API system to expand and render the frame. The browser renders, in the frame, the advertisement slot containing the advertisement. The browser also renders, in the frame, the additional information. The browser displays the expanded inline frame, such that the displayed frame covers a portion of the content. |

1. A method of providing an ad extension for an advertisement on a content network, the ad extension comprising additional information related to the advertisement, the method comprising:
selecting the advertisement for display with a plurality of advertisements from a plurality of advertisements stored in an advertisement server; selecting additional information related to the selected advertisement, the additional information being stored in the advertisement server; transmitting, over a network, display data representing the plurality of advertisements to a browser in a user device and a user interface feature for the selected advertisement, wherein the browser:
interacts with an expandable Application Programming Interface (API) of the user device to render, with content of a content page, an inline frame having a first size and comprising a plurality of advertisement slots;renders each of the plurality of advertisements in a corresponding advertisement slot of the inline frame, the user interface feature rendered with, and separate from, the selected advertisement in one of the plurality of advertisement slots; anddisplays the inline frame including the plurality of advertisements that include the user interface feature rendered with the selected advertisement to a user on a display associated with the user device; and transmitting, over the network, display data representing the additional information related to the advertisement to the browser in the user device, wherein the browser:
receives an input, via the user interface feature rendered with and separate from the selected advertisement, to activate the ad extension from the user;in response to the input, interacts with the expandable API to expand the inline frame to a second size while displaying the plurality of advertisements in a first space of the inline frame and renders the expanded inline frame in the content page, the expanded inline frame expanded to include a second space separate from the displayed plurality of advertisements, a position of a panel in the second space of the expanded inline frame based on a dimensional ratio of the advertisement slot;renders, in the panel of the second space of the expanded inline frame adjacent to the first space, the additional information related with the advertisement, the panel having an area less than an area of the second space;renders a border around the selected advertisement of the plurality of displayed advertisements in the first space of the expanded inline frame and the additional information rendered in the panel of the second space of the expanded inline frame; anddisplays the expanded inline frame including the plurality of advertisements including the selected advertisement and the additional information to the user on the display associated with the user device such that the displayed expanded inline frame covers a portion of the content on the content page. |
