PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a surgical instrument assembly for surgically removing a previously implanted hip prosthesis and implanting a replacement hip prosthesis in the patient's femur, for improvement.SOLUTION: A version-replicating instrument 460 is used to ensure that the version of an implanted proximal body component replicates the version determined by use of a proximal trial instrument during trial. When the proximal trial instrument is secured to the version-replicating instrument, an alignment key of the proximal trial instrument is positioned in an alignment slot 474 of the version-replicating instrument so as to align the proximal trial instrument in a predetermined orientation relative to the version-replicating instrument.
