A method for positioning a guide wire within a subject during a procedure, the method comprising: capturing and displaying a static X-ray image comprising at least a tip of a guide wire and a vascular tree pattern of vessels indicated by contrast; utilizing an ultrasound system to collect real-time live ultrasound images throughout at least a portion of the procedure; displaying the live ultrasound images comprising at least the tip of the guide wire and at least a portion of the vessels to show motion of the guide wire in real time on the live ultrasound images throughout at least the portion of the procedure; registering the static X-ray image with the live ultrasound images; identifying the guide wire on both the X-ray image and the ultrasound image; automatically detecting movement of the guide wire within the live ultrasound images throughout at least the portion of the procedure; and presenting, on the static X-ray image throughout at least the portion of the procedure, an indication of movement of the guide wire within the vascular tree pattern, wherein the indication of movement is based on the movement of the guide wire automatically detected within the life ultrasound images.
