PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a low-cost alkali metal cell having high reliability and stability.SOLUTION: A method for manufacturing an alkali metal cell comprises the steps of: forming a first opening 111 and a second opening 112 penetrating a main substrate 110; bonding a first transparent substrate 121 to one surface of the main substrate; installing an alkali metal generating agent 140 in the second opening of the main substrate; installing a junction metal film 133 around the first opening and the second opening; bonding the main substrate and the second transparent substrate by the junction metal film in a state in which a gap is formed between the main substrate and the second transparent substrate 122 (first bonding step); generating an alkali metal gas by heating the alkali metal generating agent and diffusing the gas from the second opening to the first opening via the gap; and blocking the gap by melting the metallic material forming the junction metal film (second bonding step).
