<p>An electrical fuse device comprises two main electrical contacts (fig 3A 138,140) between which a primary fuse 134 is electrically connectable. A holder for the primary fuse is provided on a removable part (fig 3, 130A) of the device and includes a station 205 for receiving an end of the primary fuse. A clamping mechanism mechanically couples a station and a main electrical contact when the removable part is in place; and is operable to clamp the contact and the fuse end to the station when the primary fuse is present and to clamp the contact to the respective station when the primary fuse is not present. The removable part can move, depending on whether the fuse is present, to allow the stations into contact with the contacts. The clamping mechanism can include a screw 207, a pivoting clamp fig 10C, 215 and a pivoting linkage (fig 10C, 209) that translates movement of the screw into movement of the clamping mechanism. The fuse device can further include a secondary fuse (fig 3A, 136) having one end connected to a first main contact and means such as a moving contact (fig 5, 142) and actuator (fig 3A, 155) that connects the second main contact to the other end of the fuse in response to detecting failure of primary fuse 134.</p> |
