The invention relates to a rainwater filter for a cistern which is provided with a siphon (17) between the cistern and the dirty water outlet. The siphon is an integral component of the housing (1) of the rainwater filter. Additionally, the housing has a lower part (3) through which a dirty water outlet pipe (13) runs and in which the dirty water outlet pipe (13) has an opening with an overflow edge (16). An outer opening (14) is located in the lateral wall of the lower part (3), said outer opening being covered by a partition (18) in order to form a siphon (17). Thus, the siphon (17) and the housing (1) form a compact unit which can be easily installed in a cistern.
