<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To facilitate mounting of an optical module. <P>SOLUTION: An optical module 1 is mounted on a cage C of a host device from a rear end side in a longitudinal direction and includes a light receiving element 6 and a light emitting element 7, an upper housing 4 and a lower housing 5 for housing the light receiving element 6 and the light emitting element 7, and a shield member 3 provided on a top face of the upper housing 4. The shield member 3 includes a first upper surface section 32D and a second upper surface section 32E, which are arranged in order from a left side to a right side on the top face. A rear end edge 32a provided at a rear end of the first upper surface section 32D is inclined from a rear end side to a front end side from a left side toward a right side.
