A laser sighting system 100 comprises a fixed section 110 having a fastener to provide a rigid connection to a weapon, and a gimbal or turret section 112 rotatably attached to the fixed section 110 and containing a laser assembly 160. The sighting system 100 includes an onboard ballistics computer which receives range information from a rangefinder 120, e.g. via cable 138, calculates a trajectory and, using a motor (220, fig.8) disposed within the fixed section 110, automatically rotates the pointing laser to the proper angle for causing the trajectory path of a fired projectile to intersect with the position of the target. The laser sighting system may be used with a grenade launcher 124. The system may also be used in a standalone mode, e.g. with a standalone grenade launcher, in which case target distance information may be entered manually by the user. |
