The portal framework 10 has a column 40 with a header receiving profile 30 attached at an upper end 41, the profile has a channel 21 with two flanges 31,32. Preferably the timber header receiving profile and the column are formed from bent or folded sheet metal, a base 34 between the flanges 31,32, or one of the flanges themselves, are permanently welded to the column 40. Preferably the flanges 31,32 have angled fastener alignment guides 35, formed as holes 351 in each flange or as a separate component; the guides are formed in offset groups (fig.3,38,39), fasteners (fig.4,22) passing through a single group are parallel to one another but are at a convergent angle to fasteners of another group (fig.4), and towards the middle of the channel (fig.4,23). A method of forming a portal frame apparatus is also claimed. |
