<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an automatic transaction device capable of reducing a jam occurrence rate in transaction and a jam occurrence rate in automatic counting and a method for counting the cash amount of the automatic transaction device.SOLUTION: When deposited cash is stored, a value obtained by subtracting a currency amount stored in a recycle cassette from a deposited cash counting result is set as the storage amount of a reject cassette in this time deposit transaction. When payment transaction is executed, reject currency whose denominations and number are clear is stored in the reject cassette, and the stored currency amount of the reject cassette in this time payment transaction is recorded, and any reject currency other than the reject currency whose denominations and number are clear is stored in a cassette in which currency to be used in transaction is stored or any cassette other than a temporary storage part or the temporary storage part.
