PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the system efficiency of a hybrid electric vehicle without degrading drivability during reverse travel.SOLUTION: A hybrid electric vehicle 100 comprises: an engine 22; a first motor-generator 51; a planetary gear mechanism 30; a second motor-generator 52; a battery 50; battery-state detection means 55 detecting a voltage and a remaining capacity of the battery 50; a gradient sensor 89 detecting a rising gradient; an accelerator depression amount sensor 84; and a control unit 70, a lower limit rotational speed of the engine 22 is set in response to the rising gradient and the accelerator depression amount if the hybrid electric vehicle 100 travels reversely and the battery 50 is charged at the voltage of the battery 50 equal to or lower than a first threshold or at the remaining capacity of the battery 50 equal to or smaller than a second threshold. |
