PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image information gathering system and an image information gathering method that are able to appropriately gather an image of a subject. ! SOLUTION: An image information gathering system includes: an actual site system 10 for gathering image information and a support system 30 for commanding operation control of the actual site system. The actual site system includes inside a pen-shaped case 11: imaging means 15 for imaging an image at an actual site; video display means 16 for displaying video; actual site side operation control means 18 for controlling operation of the imaging means and video display means; position detection means 22 for detecting the current position of the actual site system; and actual site side communication means 23 for performing information communication with the support system.
