PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image display device that can suppress, in performing display control according to the characteristics of an image, the influence of information to be added to the image, and a control method of an image display device.SOLUTION: A projector 1 includes a feature amount acquisition unit 112 that extracts a target frame from a display image, extracts a comparison frame for comparison from the display image at a different timing from the target frame, cuts out first and second areas from the extracted target frame, and cuts out third and fourth areas from the comparison frame. The feature amount acquisition unit 112 then determines the image feature amounts of the respective areas, compares the image feature amount between the first and third areas and compares the image feature amount between the second and fourth areas, weights the first and second areas on the basis of a result of the comparison, and determines the image feature amount of the entire target frame on the basis of a result of the weighting. |
