A communications apparatus of the present invention comprises a first communications unit, a second communications unit, and a third communications unit for performing data communications. The second communications unit performs specific communications to start off the third communications unit, has a slower communications speed than the third communications unit, and consumes less electricity than the third communications unit. The first communications unit has a shorter communications distance than the third and the second communications unit. The communications apparatus includes: a receiving unit for receiving, when communications with the other communications apparatus is initiated by means of the first communications unit, information on the other communications apparatus from the first communications unit; and a selection unit for selecting whether to initiate data communications by the third or the second communications unit based on the received information. |
