A descender device (1) is disclosed for use in a fall arrest system. The device includes a descent line (23) and a release element (19) connected to a binding line (4). The release element (19) releases the binding line when actuated by a user to allow descent. A restraint arrangement (4, 8, 11) is arranged to clamp or pinch a length of flexible line (4) which is passed between a plurality of bars (11) in a serpentine manner to arrest the fall, the descent line (23) is then deployed via the release element to lower the user after the fall has been arrested. |
