The device has a transducer unit delivering a macroscopic measurand to quantify intensity of a braking event. A logic controller is adapted to acquire and process the macroscopic measurand. A reading accessible memory is accessed by the controller, and comprises an empirical relation relating the macroscopic measurand with a damage rate of a brake disk (210). An alarm module is adapted to scan a reading and writing accessible memory to start an alarm when accumulation of the damage rate reaches a given threshold. An independent claim is also included for a method for constructing a brake disk damaging indicator for a monitoring device.
