The discharge detection unit (100) configured so as to detect the presence or absence of droplet discharge comprises: an impact member (101) with an impact surface on which droplets (120) land; a wiping member (202) for wiping and cleaning droplets (120) that have landed on the impact surface; and a cleaning member (111) for removing the droplets adhering to the wiping member (202) from the wiping member (202) to clean same. The wiping member (202) is configured to elastically deform when pressed against the cleaning member (111). The cleaning member (111) has a contact section that the wiping member (202) contacts after wiping the droplets (120) on the impact surface. The contact section of the wiping member (111) is formed in a shape such that after the two ends of the wiping member (202) in the direction orthogonal to the wiping direction of the wiping member (202) come in contact with the contact section first, portions of the wiping member then come in contact with the contact section successively approaching the center section of the wiping member (202).
