630,960. Cooling motors. BYRON JACKSON CO. Feb. 12, 1946, No. 4322. Convention date, March 26, 1945. [Class 35] [Also in Group XXVI] In a submersible pump, the driving electric motor 5 is contained ir a housing, the shaft 2( being supported by bear. ings 21, 22 and extending through a liquid seal 31 to drive an impeller 35 that delivers through the annular chamber 13 surrounding the motor housing. The liquid sea] 31 is fitted with rubbing collar sealing devices 32, 33 and a bellows 34 is arranged ' to equalize pressures in the seal and the motor housing as described in Specification 630,958. The motor housing contains a dielectric liquid and also to maintain pressure within the housing, an inert gas that is admitted through the connection 44. The volume of the gas is preferably equal to two or three times the increase in volume of the dielectric liquid due to thermal expansion during running of the motor. The dielectric liquid is circulated by a pump 27 through the motor and bearings and returns to the pump through passages 10, 25, and 26. Specification 631,022, [Group XXVI], also is referred to.
