This gas diffusion electrode substrate comprises an electrode substrate and a microporous section, and is used in fuel cells. The microporous section (A) is formed on one surface of the electrode substrate at a thickness of 10μm to 60μm, and in the gas diffusion electrode substrate, the void volume of voids having a void diameter of 0.1μm to less than 10μm falls within a range of a multiple of 0.9 to 5 of the void volume of voids having a void diameter of 10μm to less than 100μm.
