The present invention discloses a novel apparatus and methods for augmenting the power of a gas turbine engine, improving gas turbine engine operation, and reducing the response time necessary to meet changing demands of a power plant. Improvements in power augmentation and engine operation include additional heated compressed air injection from a power augmentation system and a motor-generator in selective operation with the power augmentation system.

1. An gas turbine energy system comprising:
a gas turbine engine comprising a compressor, a compressor discharge case, one or more combustors, and a turbine fluidly connected to each other; a power augmentation system comprising a fueled engine, an intercooled compressor, an intercooler, and a recuperator, where shaft power from the fueled engine drives the intercooled compressor, and air compressed by the intercooled compressor is heated with exhaust heat from the fueled engine to form hot air injection to the gas turbine engine; and, a motor-generator selectively coupled to the power augmentation system; wherein the motor-generator selectively generates electricity or mechanical power for driving the supplemental compressor.
