Surgical instrument comprising load feedback

The instrument has a saw blade (3) removably attachable to a handle (1), and a load sensor (6) for measuring a mechanical load exerted by the blade on the instrument. A data transmitter and a data processing unit are coupled to the load sensor, and configured to output a signal for indicating a load state via a color code to a user. The blade has a radio-frequency identification (RFID) transponder (7) for transmitting information about a nature of the blade to a RFID transmitter/receiver (8) on the instrument. An independent claim is also included for a method of determining a force applied to a tool of a surgical instrument.
