摘要 <p>A method for preparing barium alloys consists in reducing an oxygenated compound of barium, in the state of barium oxide or barium aluminate, in atmospheric air by magnesium, at a higher temperature than the melting point of magnesium, or by an alloy of magnesium and one or more other metals which it is desired to include in the composition of the final alloy to be obtained, operating a higher temperature than the melting point of the alloy of magnesium with the said other metal or metals. The oxide slag may be removed by mere sedimentation from the alloy so formed. Further barium may be extracted from the slag by treating the slag two or three times with magnesium or one of its alloys, in the molten state. Complex alloys may be made by reduction of the barium compound together with other metallic oxides reducible by magnesium, e.g., by reduction of a combination of barium oxide and alumina, which may be produced by first reducing barium dioxide with aluminium in air. Barium metal and barium alloy may be obtained by reducing barium oxide with aluminium under vacuum and treating the residues in accordance with the invention, e.g., by treating the residues with an alloy of aluminium with a little magnesium. The production of alloys of magnesium, barium and strontium, and of magnesium, barium and aluminium is referred to. From the latter magnesium-barium alloys may be obtained by distillation in vacuum.</p>
