Host compounds for red phosphorescent OLEDs

Novel compounds containing a triphenylene moiety linked to an αβ connected binaphthyl ring system are provided. These compounds have surprisingly good solubility in organic solvents and are useful as host compounds in red phosphorescent OLEDs.

A compound having the formula: wherein R1, R2, and R3 represent mono, di, tri, tetra, penta, hexa-substitutions, or no substitution; wherein R1, R2, and R3 are independently selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, deuterium, halide, alkyl, cycloalkyl, heteroalkyl, arylalkyl, alkoxy, aryloxy, amino, silyl, alkenyl, cycloalkenyl, heteroalkenyl, alkynyl, aryl, heteroaryl, acyl, carbonyl, carboxylic acids, ester, nitrile, isonitrile, sulfanyl, sulfinyl, sulfonyl, phosphino, and combinations thereof; wherein R2, and R3 are unfused; wherein, if R1 comprises a cyclic moiety, R1 may be optionally fused; wherein L is a single bond, an aryl group, or a heteroaryl group; and wherein L may be optionally substituted with one or more groups selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, deuterium, halide, alkyl, cycloalkyl, heteroalkyl, arylalkyl, alkoxy, aryloxy, amino, silyl, alkenyl, cycloalkenyl, heteroalkenyl, alkynyl, aryl, heteroaryl, acyl, carbonyl, carboxylic acids, ester, nitrile, isonitrile, sulfanyl, sulfinyl, sulfonyl, phosphino, and combinations thereof.
