[Class 64 (iii)], In an oil cooler with a byepass jacket 5 around an air-cooled matrix 1, the inner wall of the jacket is provided with apertures 15 through which hot oil may flow into direct contact with cold congealed oil in the matrix. A pressure or thermally operated valve 13 at the outlet 9 from the jacket closes when the oil in the matrix has been heated sufficiently to allow it to be forced through the matrix outlet 10.
