PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a biomass processing method, and to provide products produced from the biomass.SOLUTION: A method for producing an alcohol, a carboxylic acid, and a salt of a carboxylic acid, an ester of a carboxylic acid, or mixtures of any of them comprises treating a carbon-containing material with one or more of radiation irradiation, ultrasonication, thermolysis, oxidation, and steam blasting, and transforming at least one part of the treated carbon-containing material with microorganisms to produce products comprising one or more of an alcohol, a carboxylic acid, a salt of a carboxylic acid, an ester of a carboxylic acid, or mixtures any of them. |
