A method of percutaneous delivery of a head-to-head cross connector system for use with a surgical screw system, said cross connector system comprising a fastener element with an orbital head located at a distal end, a first U-shaped body having a first rod receiving channel there between, a first compression element comprising a rigid orbital head at a distal end, a second U-shaped body having a second rod receiving channel there between, and a second compression element, the method comprising: receiving the orbital head of the fastener element in a proximal end of the first U-shaped body; driving the fastener element into a bone in a first orientation; receiving a first rod in the first rod receiving channel of the first U-shaped body; positioning the first U-shaped body and the first rod in a second orientation; driving the first compression element into a distal end of the first U-shaped body so that the first compression element is adjacent to the first rod in the first rod receiving channel, thereby engaging the first rod against the orbital head of the fastener element; receiving the rigid orbital head of the first compression element in a proximal end of the second U-shaped body; receiving a second rod in the second rod receiving channel of the second U-shaped body; positioning the second U-shaped body and the second rod in a third orientation; and driving the second compression element into a distal end of the second U-shaped body so that the second compression element is against the second rod in the second rod receiving channel, thereby engaging the second rod against the rigid orbital head of the first compression element.
