<p>A kink preventing device (10) for supporting a safety loop (12) in tubing (14) used for intravenous infusion of a patient has a substantially U-shaped tubular body (16) defining a guide path which receives and supports the safety loop. The tubular body has a U-shaped longitudinal axis (18), an outer length (20) and an inner length (22), and an opening (24) along the outer length through which a portion of tubing to form the safety loop is inserted. The longitudinal opening (24) defines upper and lower free edges (26, 28) of the tubular body. A first pair of retaining clip members (30, 32) integrally project from respective upper and lower free edges at a first end (34) of the tubular body. A second pair of retaining clip members (38, 40) integrally projects from respective upper and lower free edges at a second end (42) of the tubular body opposite to the first end. Each pair of the retaining clip members provides a constricted opening (50) for insertion and releasable retention of the safety loop. The constricted opening is narrower than the longitudinal opening along the outer length of the tubular body. The safety loop is supported along the guide path by squeezing the portion of tubing forming the safety loop through the constricted opening. A flange (52) integrally projects inwardly from the inner length of the tubular body to resist force tending to move the first and second ends apart or together but to succumb to force tending to twist the first and second ends in opposite directions.</p> |
