[Class 31 (i)] In mechanism for cutting sheets from a travelling web 14 by means of a pair of cutting cylinders 10, 11 provided with co-operating longitudinally extending cutting blades 12, 13, each cylinder is provided at spaced points along its length with rings of sprocket teeth 40 around which an endless chain 23, 24 passes, the cutting blades are formed with cut-away portions or recesses adapted to allow passage of the links of the chains, and the chains are so arranged as to be in pairs with adjacent reaches which form a confined path along which the cut sheets are conveyed from the cylinders to further guide or forwarding means. The cut sheets are thus prevented from following the cutting cylinders or bunching and jamming in the mechanism. Where the blades 12, 13 intersect with the rings of sprocket teeth, a tooth 40 is omitted to accommodate the blade, the latter being provided with a pair of spaced slots to receive the chain links and an intervening blade portion filling the space between the links (see Fig. 4, not shown). The chains pass around guide rollers or sprockets 31 so as to convey the cut sheets between guides 17, 18 to forwarding tapes 19, 20 which pass around roller portions of the sprockets 31. The cylinders 10, 11 are preferably driven rollers. The chains also pass round further sprockets 30 or rollers mounted at the end of arms 33 pivotally mounted at 34, and the tension of the chain may be adjusted by means of a set screw 36. A plurality of blades may be provided on each cutting cylinder. The cut-away portions of the blades leave uncut tabs between adjacent sheets and these, if not immediately torn, contribute to the guiding of the sheets. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 comprises also the elimination of the sprocket teeth 40 by providing grooves in the cylinders 10 and 11 for the chains 23, 24 and in this case the sprockets 31 are driven to drive the chains. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
