<p>678,163. Textile drafting apparatus; rollers. AMBLER SUPERDRAFT, Ltd. March 20,1950 [March 29,1949], No. 8465/49. Classes 120(i) and 120(ii) Apparatus for drafting textile fibres includes a positively driven intermediate roller pair in which each roller terminates at one end in a free end face and at the other end in a flange, the rollers being oppositely disposed so that the free end face of each roller meets the flange of the other roller. The invention has particular application to the high-drafting mechanism disclosed in Specification 671,633. It is stated that rollers of 0.1 inch diameter or less may be employed. The rollers 16, 17 are formed integrally with their supporting shafts 51, 34 and the flanges 26 are formed as end faces of collars 54, 37 secured to the roller shafts by pins and provided with grooves 86, 84. Flutings may be cut in the top roller 16, the included angle of the grooves and teeth having an included angle of about 90 degrees. A roving guide 14 has tongues 82, 83 which enter into grooves 84, 86 to locate the rollers 16, 17 axially. Projections 71 on the guide 14 engage slots 72 in the body 31 of an intermediate unit mounted between two pairs of drawing rollers and adapted to be traversed axially of the drawing rollers and adjusted towards or from the front rollers. A channel-shaped member or flume 18 has an extension which rests on a floor portion of the body 31 and extends into a recess in the roving guide 14. The top roller 16 and its immediate driving gears are mounted in a bracket 57 pivoted on a stud 58 secured in the body 31 and an enlarged portion 59 of the bracket acts as a weight for pressing the intermediate rollers 16, 17 together. Cover plates 67, 68 are arranged to slide into recesses in the body 31 for enclosing the intermediate roller gearing. Specifications 671,637, 671,639 and 671,643 also are referred to.</p> |
