The present invention relates to a composition for diagnosing hepatocellular carcinoma including a formulation which measures an mRNA level of a gene coding OIP5 and a level of protein expressed from the same, a method for providing information for diagnosing hepatocellular carcinoma including a step of measuring the mRNA level of the OIP5 gene or the level of protein expressed from the same, a screening method of a formulation for preventing or treating hepatocellular carcinoma including a step of screening a material which can reduce the mRNA level of the OIP5 gene or the level of protein expressed from the same, and a pharmaceutical composition for preventing or treating hepatocellular carcinoma including a formulation which restrains expression of the OIP5 gene or an activation of the protein expressed from the gene. When using the OIP5 gene of the present invention, the composition can be widely used to prevent or treat hepatocellular carcinoma as enabling to diagnose hepatocellular carcinoma and restrain the propagation and the movement of the same.
