A communication exception processing method and a network element device. The communication exception processing method is applied to a network element device of a distributed system and comprises the following steps: detecting communication states of a line card and a master control board in a network element device and other communication nodes in the network element device; when a communication exception within a scheduled time period is detected, acquiring an exception type of the communication exception and conducting accumulation processing on an exception count of the exception type; and when the exception count reaches a predetermined threshold, processing the communication exception corresponding to the exception count. By means of the technical solution, fault tolerance, reliability and availability of the communication of a network element device can be increased. |
