<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To maintain earthquake resistance of a storage pit, while making effective use of a storage space in an existing storage pit. <P>SOLUTION: A method for modifying a spent fuel storage facility which stores fuel storage racks 112 accommodating spent fuel rods, while cooling them in the water W in a square storage pit 101 includes a process for putting a rectangular frame work 1, where the fuel storage racks 112 are to be laid out after modification on a rectangular floor 102 of the storage pit 101 where the fuel storage racks 112 are removed; a process for installing pressing devices 2, which can freely extend toward inner wall surfaces 103a of walls 103 of the square storage pit 101 of the inner wall surfaces 103a of the walls 103 of the storage pit 101 between the them and the frame work 1; and a process for extending the pressing devices 2 and allowing the devices 2 to fix the frame work 1 onto the bottom of the storage pit 101. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2011,JPO&INPIT</p> |
