1. A method for preparing a graphene precursor which comprises:
condensing 1,4 dicyanobenzene with a 3 halo benzyl derivative to produce 1,4-bis(3-chlorophenylacetyl)benzene; oxidizing at least a portion of the 1,4-bis(3-chlorophenylacetyl)benzene to produce an oxidized 1,4-bis(3-chlorophenylacetyl)benzene wherein the methylene groups of the phenyl acetyl moieties were converted to carbonyl groups; reacting the oxidized 1,4-bis(3-chlorophenylacetyl)benzene with optionally substituted dibenzyl ketone to produce a reacted benzene compound; and reacting at least a portion of the reacted benzene compound with an alkyne to convert at least one residual halo groups to ethynyl groups. |
