Various embodiments are generally directed to an apparatus, method and other techniques for activating a payment account for an vehicle electronic wallet component and to associate the payment account with a vehicle. In various embodiments, a request for payment for a transaction may be received over a contactless communication link when the vehicle is in proximity to a payment processing entity and authentication information to approve the request for payment may be received. The payment information corresponding to the payment account may be transmitted over the contactless communication link to the payment processing entity to enable payment for the transaction.
