PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new bulk catalyst for the hydroprocessing of a hydrocarbon feedstock.SOLUTION: The bulk catalyst comprises at least 60 wt. % metal oxidic particles containing either nickel or cobalt, and molybdenum, and further containing less than 10 mol% of second Group VIB metal other than molybdenum (relative to the total amount of Group VIB metals) and a Group V metal in an amount of 0.1-10 mol% (relative to the total of the Group VIB metals). The bulk catalyst is used for hydroprocessing of a hydrocarbon feedstock comprising sulphur and nitrogen-containing organic compounds, the bulk catalyst has been calcined at a temperature below a temperature where the hexagonal metastable crystal structure changes to an inactive crystalline structure, and the bulk catalyst has a metastable hexagonal phase characterized in that an X-ray diffraction pattern has reflections at 33-35 and 58-61° 2&thetas; when the wavelength of an irradiation X ray is 1.5418 angstroms. |
