The present invention provides a halogen atom-substituted polymerizable compound having improved solubility in solvents and liquid crystals and able to be used in a liquid crystal aligning agent. The present invention provides a polymerizable compound which contains an aromatic ring having at least one substituent halogen atom and which is represented by formula [1] (in the formula, Ar is a divalent organic group containing an aromatic ring having at least one substituent halogen atom, and n1 and n2 are each independently an integer between 1 and 10. A fluorine group is preferred as the halogen group); and a liquid crystal aligning agent which contains the polymerizable compound and at least one type of polymer selected from among a polyimide and a polyimide precursor.
