This reinforcement device comprises a first heater (9A) on which a fusion-spliced section of an optical fiber around which a protective member has been placed is laid out, a second heater (9B) provided on each side of said first heater (9A) in the lengthwise direction of the optical fiber, and a CPU (14). The first heater (9A) heats the center of the protective member to a first temperature (T1), the second heaters (9B) heat the ends of the protective member to a second temperature (T2), and the CPU (14) controls the energization of the first heater (9A) and the second heaters (9B) in order to make said heaters perform said heating. The CPU (14) sets the period of time over which the first heater (9A) is energized and the period of time over which the second heaters (9B) are energized so as to at least partially overlap. |
