A box-type dishwasher has a treatment chamber or a conveyor- type dishwasher has at least one treatment zone. A wash system of the treatment chamber or the treatment zonehas a wash tank for wash liquid, a plurality of spray nozzles, in at least one wash tube, for spraying wash liquid onto the washware, and a wash pump, connected to the at least one wash tube by a line system, for supplying wash liquid from the wash tank to the spray nozzles. The at least one wash tube has a central cleaning opening which is formed in such a way that at least some of the wash liquid which is supplied to the wash tube by the wash pump flows back into the wash tank via the central cleaning opening in a cleaning mode of the dishwasher when the central cleaning opening is opend for flow.
