PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To achieve a technology of suppressing, in composing a plurality of images photographed for each of subject areas, generation of an image in which a main subject or a part thereof is missed.SOLUTION: An image processing apparatus includes: acquisition means acquiring a first image photographed by imaging means while light is emitted from flashing means, a second image photographed by the imaging means while light is not emitted from the flashing means, and a third image that is further exposed than the second image photographed by the imaging means while light is not emitted from the flashing means; setting means for setting a standby time between photographing of the first image or the second image and photographing of the third image; composing means for extracting an area from the first image on the basis of a comparison in brightness between the first image and the second image and composing the area and the third image; and control means for controlling a method of extracting the area by the composing means on the basis of the setting of the standby time by the setting means.
