The present invention relates to an impact absorption type steering apparatus for vehicles, including: a steering column; a tilting bracket joined to the outer circumference of the steering column; a mounting bracket joined to the tilting bracket to join the steering column to a predetermined position on a vehicle body by mediating therebetween; and an impact absorbing member which is deformed to make the tilting bracket and the steering column relatively move on a predetermined position on the vehicle body in order to absorb the virtual pressure of a handle induced by an impact to a driver in a collision of a vehicle. One point of the shock absorbing member is bolted to the mounting bracket and the other point of the shock absorbing member is bolted to the mounting bracket around part of the tilting bracket to form a joining force to the tilting bracket. Therefore, the impact absorption type steering apparatus for vehicles reinforces the lateral stiffness and reduces driver injuries caused by a second collision.
