The present invention relates to entropy encoding and entropy decoding for video encoding and decoding. Disclosed is a method for video entropy decoding which determines a bin string and a bin index for a maximum encoding unit obtained from the bitstream; and when comparing bin strings which can be allocated to a syntax element from the bin index with the currently obtained bin string and determining value of a syntax element, stores context variables for the maximum encoding unit, and restores symbols of the maximum encoding units of maximum encoding unit by using the value of predetermined syntax element in case that the syntax element is the last syntax element in the last maximum encoding unit, and a dependent slice segment can be included in a picture including the maximum encoding unit.
