An animal feed additive for use in the treatment or prophylaxis of acute or subacute ruminal acidosis or conditions resulting from ruminal acidosis in a ruminant, the additive comprising oligomeric procyanidins complexed with iron ions and/or iron compounds, wherein a ratio between the iron ions and/or iron compounds and the oligomeric procyanidins lies in a range from 1:10 to 1:20000.
