PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus which does not disturb a worker, with space saving properties and with a shape having less recesses and protrusions.SOLUTION: An image forming apparatus 1 includes an image reading part 2. The image reading part 2 includes a placing unit 221, an image reading unit 224, and a housing 20. The placing unit 221 includes a placing surface 222 on which a document is placed. The image reading unit 224 scans and reads the image of the document placed on the placing surface 222 in a sub-scan direction. The housing 20 includes an opening 7 for exposing the placing surface 222 and stores the image reading unit 224. The placing unit 221 can be moved from a first position to a second position along the sub-scan direction. At least a part of the first area 6 on which the document is placed of an area on the placing surface 222 is covered with the housing 20, in the first position. The first area 6 is exposed through the opening 7, in the second position. |
