<p>An apparatus for controlling vehicle operation based on a blood alcohol content of a driver, the apparatus comprising: a detector located within a vehicle comprising a sensor configured to produce an electrical signal representative of the blood alcohol content of the driver, wherein the electrical signal is generated by measuring an alcohol content of a volume of air within a predetermined vehicle zone defined as a three-dimensional zone substantially in or in proximity to a driver seat side of the vehicle, and wherein the detector measures the alcohol content of the volume of air independent of any interaction of the driver with the detector; and a controller electrically coupled to the detector, the controller configured to control at least one vehicle operation in response to the electrical signal received by the controller from the sensor, and wherein the controller is configured to prevent an operation of at least one vehicle operation prior to receiving the electrical signal from the sensor. 24948000v1 SIMPSOT "004 eoN F" G 1-"z 'K u$</p> |
