548,102. Vulcanizing electric cables. OKONITE CO. July 2. 1941, No. 8358. Convention date, Dec. 26, 1940. [Class 39 (ill)] Insulated wire 10 is passed continuously through a cylinder 12 containing oil which is maintained under pressure by a pump 18. Leaky stuffing boxes 14 are provided to minimize friction, and any escaping-oil is received by cups 22 and returned to the pump 18. A reel 4 of tin strip faced with rubber is passed through apparatus 6 which folds it over the bare wire from the reel 2. A high frequency electric field is applied to the insulation, the leads from the source 26 being connected to the wire 2 and the stuffing box 14, whereby the insulation is heated while under pressure of the oil 24. The tin strip 28 is stripped from the vulcanized cable and wound on a reel 30. The high frequency apparatus, reels, 4, 30, and cylinder 12 are suspended by insulators 34, 36, 38. ,
