PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a vehicle periphery monitoring system capable of ensuring a detection coverage while expanding a detection distance in front of a vehicle, by using an ultrasonic sensor.SOLUTION: A vehicular periphery monitoring system has a longi distance ultrasonic sensor 10 loaded with a horn structure 105 and expanding a detection distance, and short distance ultrasonic sensors 11-14 which do not expand a detection distance. By the control of a micro computer 21 of an electronic control unit 20, an ultrasonic pulse is transmitted from the long distance ultrasonic sensor 10 to a front side including a traveling direction. Reflection waves from a preceding vehicle target are received by the longi distance ultrasonic sensor 10 and the short distance ultrasonic sensors 11-14. The received reflection waves are analyzed by the microcomputer 21 to detect a position of the preceding vehicle target, and warned and notified by a warning/notifying device 31 according to the necessity. An own vehicle is controlled by an engine control ECU 30, a brake control ECU 32, and a steering control ECU 33. |
