PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide compositions and methods for administering oxybutynin while minimizing the incidence and/or severity of adverse drug experiences associated with oxybutynin therapy.SOLUTION: An oxybutynin gel formulation for the unoccluded topical application to a skin surface contains 0.1-10% by weight of oxybutynin, 0.05-10% by weight of gel carrier, 60-85% by weight of a solvent, 1-30% by weight of water, and 0.01-20% by weight of an emulsifying agent, having a pH of 6-9. The oxybutynin and an isomer of a metabolite thereof meets properties, such that it minimizes the incidence and/or severity of adverse drug experiences, and maintaining the useful and effective therapy to overactive bladder. In some aspects, the composition can be provided in an unoccluded or free gel form which is administered topically. |
