The drive unit has an electric drive (20) with a permanent magnet DC motor (3), which is operated above a rated motor power, and with an electronic regulator (4) for the DC motor. The electronic regulator is coupled with a processor. The DC motor is switched off before a critical heating limit of the DC motor is reached. The electric drive is small and light weight such that the drive with the gearbox is mounted directly to an adjusting mechanism for the adjustable unit. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) an adjusting device for an adjustable unit of a vehicle (2) a method for driving an adjusting device for an adjustable unit.
